One of the keys to success in life starts with proper identification of oneself. Anything in life that is not known is subject to underutilisation or even, an outright abuse. Do you know who you are? The life of anyone starts with birth. The moment a child is born into the world; the child’s assignment begins with trying to figure out who on earth he is and gradually realising that he has purpose to fulfil in life.
The greatest discovery of all time that any man can make of himself is to know his true identity. Self-identification appears very simple but I tell you, it is one of the most difficult things to do. Many who say, “I know who I am” don’t really know. “Man know thyself”, a profound statement accredited to the Greek philosopher, Socrates, is a very powerful warning to anyone who wishes to make headway in life. That is the assignment of everyone on earth and that includes you and me alike. If you do not know who you are, then others will take you for whom they think you are.
However, no one can truly know himself because it is not in any man to know his way neither is it in him to direct his step (Jer. 10: 23). Many people have embarked on the mission of sincerely seeking to know themselves, who they truly are but with a wrong approach. You are created by God, and not by your own self. Therefore, the only place to seek to know who you are and what you are created to do in life is in God. You consist in Him and can only be confirmed by him.
The greatest book of all time, the bible, puts it this way, “examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates”? (2Co 13:5). This is because there is no one that can better examine you than yourself. The greatest strength of a man is to understand who he is. So also, the greatest weakness of any man is, not knowing who he is. Who are you? This is a million dollar question which everyone needs to ask and answer right. Your self-worth in life depends largely on how well you are able to answer the question, “who are you”? The greatest battle you will ever contend with is the battle of identity. You may not really be able to imagine how many people are going through stuff in life as a result of lack of proper understanding of who they are. You call it ignorance, but ignorance only occurs when a man fails to have a proper understanding of who he is.
